Hit the Reset Button and Re-Energize with a Soul Sister

Reboot – It’s Soul Sister Time

Soul sisters are the people in your life that make you laugh louder, smile brighter and live better – unknown.

Ever feel like you’re in a Rocky Balboa movie and the fight never stops?  Life can feel like a boxing ring; punches coming from all directions. The quickest way out is a one-way ticket to pleasure island.

An alternate solution to running away is refueling with your soul sister.  How is a soul sister different than a friend?  A soul sister knows the deepest workings of your inner self.  She knows your fears, ambitions, desires, quirks, and bad habits without being judgmental.  She is your biggest inspiration and loudest cheerleader.  You feel incredibly inspired and fearless when together.  You can hang out together in flannel pants and a ratted holey shirt braless.  And most importantly, you love her like a sister even though she is drop dead gorgeous and talented in so many freakin’ ways.

So, when life beats me down, I know I am in need of some soul sister time.  Maybe you can relate with that feeling of just wanting to connect with someone with no strings attached.  Letting time flow like the tides of the ocean; slow and calm as it moves in and out.  So, plan a day or weekend getaway letting each day bring forth its own agenda.

Recently, my Soul Sister and I took some time to play tourist in our own local area to replenish our fuel tanks before the beginning of a new school year; as we both teach middle school children.  We spent a day beach side and became mesmerized by the sounds of the waves and the sun dancing on the water.  Our bodies became one with the sounds as our minds were renewed.

The next day we enjoyed frolicking around a large metropolitan city’s hidden jewel.  A 982 acres island park rich with history and natural beauty.   We strolled through the conservatory taking in the luscious beauty letting our minds escape and drift to the various represented regions.  Rare exotic flowering cacti led us to the desserts of the west; palm trees, warm growing orchids and brightly painted hibiscus plants put us in the tropics, and the colorful water lilies transported us to Asia.

The day continued with a bike ride around the park which blessed with the sight of a 5-6 foot bald eagle’s nest with a juvenile perched in a nearby tree.  Blessings to the man who led us down a blocked off road to experience this magnificent sight.

Life doesn’t get any better!

As lunch time neared, we found a spot to eat our packed lunch on the island’s beach.  Relaxing while eating gave us time to reveal deep heartfelt visions with each other.  Allowing dreams to throw off a spark to begin the fuel to nurture them to reality.

The afternoon took us to the city’s riverfront where we continued our journey on bikes as we rode along the river’s sidewalk.   The riverfront offered breathtaking scenery, people relaxing in Adirondack chairs, children giggling on the carousel, joggers passing by, and families enjoying time together.  Stopping to play in the “kid activated” water cannons brought out the “kid” in us.

As our time came to an end, we hugged each other closely with renewed strength for the upcoming days.

Make an effort to spend some time to replenish your tank with your soul sister:

  • Get up in the morning, sip coffee, and giggle like you haven’t since you were a little girl.
  • Play tourist in your own city.
  • Sit beachside with your toes in the sand.
  • Try a new restaurant.
  • Tour the city on a bike taking in the beauty of the landscape.
  • Shop ‘til you drop.
  • Read a book and not worry about having to have a conversation.
  • Talk until the sun comes up.
  • Reveal your deepest secrets – cry or laugh, whichever one fits.

The list is endless!

So hit the reset button when life gets out of control and reenergize with your soul sister.

Thank you, my friend for being here.  You inspire the heck out of me!
